A Type of Pride
This post, Prideful Reflection, is a devotional that I wrote. And I hope it is published in 2022. It is a kick-off to this series about pride and arrogance in the Bible, examples of pride in the Bible, consequences of pride in the Bible, and pride in the workplace.
Prideful Reflection
I love watching period dramas!
One of my favorites is Pride and Prejudice. The main character, Elizabeth, nearly misses out on love because she misjudged Mr. Darcy based on the stories of his treatment of others.
Have you judged someone by their appearance or attitude? Or maybe you didn’t know their full story and jumped to conclusions like Elizabeth?

This movie reminds me of myself. I have judged what others have done or not done. An assumption is made based on their appearance or their attitude. But I don’t know their heart, their hurt, or the pain they have suffered in their life. I have not walked a day in their shoes.
Unknowingly, I have put myself in God’s seat to judge them. As I look in the mirror and see the self-righteous pride in myself, I need to let that go.
God’s Viewpoint
Thankfully, God has an entirely different point of view. God loves the people I’m judging, wants to know them, and desires a close relationship with them (1 Timothy 2:4). He views them with eyes of love and waits for them to choose Him.
God is watching to see what each person does and judges them with impartiality.
“He will render to each one according to his works…. For God shows no partiality.”
Romans 2: 6,11 ESV
He doesn’t look at a person’s skin color, nationality, or gender. His interest is whether their heart is wholly devoted to Him and obediently serving Him.
I should not listen to what others say about people and make a judgment call based on their views. With humility, I need to listen to the truths of God’s Word and how He sees them. He sees each person as loved, chosen, and precious. Each person that I encounter is made in the image of God, every single one.
Choose today to be different and put aside your prideful prejudices, as Elizabeth experienced in Pride and Prejudice. Determine to see others with the impartial eyes of the Lord.
Key: Prideful prejudice can be reflected in two ways. Ensure you are on the humble side of the mirror.
Read: Romans 6:2; Romans 6:11; 1 Timothy 2:4
Action: Look in the mirror of your heart. What do you see in your reflection? What prejudice do you have of others that you need to put aside to love them instead? Ask God to remove that prideful prejudice and humbly see others as He sees them.
Prayer Moment: Lord, please remove the pride I have in my heart for those I know and don’t know. Give me Your love to see them as You do. Amen.

An Advent Book: The Book of Luke

This advent devotional by Susie is different than others. Most Christmas time devotionals are short and focus on the Scriptures one reads at Christmas. But this devotional contains the entire book of Luke – from the genealogy of Jesus, His birth to His death and resurrection.
Susie’s writing is easy to read and it makes me feel like I am sitting in the room listening to every word over a cup of coffee or tea.
Even though I received an Advanced Reader Copy of the book from the publisher, I am looking forward to soaking in every single word during this year’s advent season. Take the stress out of the Christmas season by making room for Jesus this Christmas. You won’t be sorry that you did! I liked this book so well that I bought extra copies for friends. I hope you will do so as well.
This book is found on Amazon or at other book retailer outlets.
