Trusting God Day by Day

Trusting God day by day can be challenging when our focus is not on God or when we are having a hard time believing. There are four things we can do daily to trust God. And there are three blessings for trusting Him.

Four Things to Do in Trusting God Day by Day

1. Fear God and Trust Him

The first thing we to do is understand who is the One who is the sovereign ruler over the heavens and all of the earth. We have that reverential fear and awe of God our Father. He is the One who will guide us through the day and be our protector.

You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
Psalm 115:11 ESV

2. Be Committed

Secondly, we need to commit what we are doing today to Him. When we put our whole trust in Him, He will take action on our behalf.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
Psalm 37:3 ESV

When I had to choose between severance or taking another job, I wanted to take the severance and run. But I chose to stay at the company and take the other job.

God had provided a position that I could heal from the hurt and disappointment. And be encouraged by the strong leadership from my boss and the friendship of my co-workers. But I had to take the first step of trusting Him and that this was the best choice for me.

3. Walk in Righteousness

In Psalm 26, David asked God to judge whether he had walked fully with Him because he put his confidence in God without slipping.

Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
Psalm 26:1 ESV

That is such a bold statement by David! I don’t know that I could ask God to judge me on my trust. There are many times when I decide to try and do life on my own.

But whatever we do, we need to act with righteousness or right-living. When we do this, we are putting our trust in God.

4. Trust in God, Not Things

I can don’t know how many times I have put my trust in other things to bring me satisfaction. But those who know God, realize that He is the One who we can trust to give us that satisfaction we desire to fulfill us.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 ESV

Three Blessings from Trusting God Day by Day

1. Trust Leads to a Glad Heart

When we trust God for the best outcome, we have a happy heart. His name is the one that we can rely on.

For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
Psalm 33:21 ESV

After choosing the other position and my heart began to heal, I saw how God had provided this opportunity for me. And I was so thankful that I wanted to sing praises to God!!

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Psalm 28:7 ESV

2. Acting with Wisdom Brings Blessing

When we choose to think through things, deal with a matter wisely, and choose to trust God for the outcome, we will discover how good comes from being wise with our words. And we are blessed because we put trust in God.

Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
Proverbs 16:20 ESV

3. Trust Results in Perfect Peace

When we choose to keep our minds focused on God and put our confidence in Him, we are blessed with perfect peace.

Peaceful lake with canoes by the edge — Perfect peace is possible when you trust God.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV

And who doesn’t want that? Gaining peace instead of trying to do it ourselves or believing that the things around us will satisfy us is so much better! When we try to do it ourselves, we fail much like a house that is built-in shifting sand.

That is why Isaiah calls God an everlasting rock. Leaning on the rock is a sturdy surface to outlast and remain standing when those daily trials come our way!!
