Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself are needed for us to understand how God sees us, which gives us the confidence we need to accept ourselves and who we are. We learned about how we are Accepted by God and how we are chosen and special to God.

There are times in this life that we have tough situations and we have found out how we can learn to accept situations.

Yet with all these great verses and things we learned in these last two posts, we still have a hard time accepting ourselves. It could be that we have specific imperfections, or we don’t like something about the way we look. Or we could have been cut down by another person, a family member, or a co-worker. In Examples of Rejection in the Bible, we learned how Jesus had been rejected by His own family, community, and religious leaders. Jesus understands completely!

Regardless of why you have a hard time accepting yourself, here are 4 reasons why is important to accept yourself.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself: You are Wonderfully Made!

Did you know that every person has a set of has unique fingerprints to only them. And that includes identical twins. Fingerprints of twins are unique to each person as well. There is no one who has ever existed or on the earth today who has the exact set of fingerprints that you have on your hands today. You are are the one and only you.

And God made you exactly who you are meant to be. You are wonderfully made!

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself 4
God me wonderful and I know that well.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14 ESV

The Psalmist acknowledged that God did great work. He believed that God created him as a masterpiece and this truth was so ingrained in him that his soul knew it and agreed with him.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself: Heart Matters

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself 5
Riding my daughter’s hose,
what a treat!

The other day I got to ride my daughter’s new horse. It has been close to 15 years since I have been on a horse. Rachel was so proud to show off her horse to her mom, brother, and sister-in-law. Since our son had never been on a horse before and our grandson had not ridden her horse yet, it was a successful day of conquering fears!

When we got in the car to leave the barn, I looked at the picture of me taken on the horse. “Ugh,” I said. “I look like a fat cow.” My husband told me that was not true and that I looked just fine on that horse. He is so kind to me. He did not accept my assessment of how my coat was all bunched up and made me appear heavy as I sat in the saddle propped up on the horse.

The Heart is the most Important

It isn’t how we look that matters. The heart is what is most important. When Israel needed a new king, God sent Samuel to visit Jesse because he had several sons. The next king would come from this family. Samuel looked upon each one thinking that they would be the one based on their appearance. However, God let him know that the young man’s appearance wasn’t the most important. His heart is what mattered the most to God.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself 1
Your Heart is what matters most.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 ESV

In Bible Verses about Rejection, we learned about this verse. God wants a person in charge of the country whose heart is wholly His. He wants a man who fears God and obeys His Word. If the person does not, then all the people in the country will seek after and bow to other gods.

One who fears God and desires to obey Him will be thinking of others and doing what he or she can do to serve the people – not themselves.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself: Beauty is Deceptive

Have you heard the phrase “beauty is skin-deep”? This concept ties in closely with the last reason that your heart matters when it comes to acceptance of yourself.

I attended a funeral of a friend of mine last week who moved here about 5 years ago from Nigeria. She loved the Lord and God’s presence flowed from her beautiful dark skin. I enjoyed the times we chatted before God called her home where she’d have a new body that was not riddled with cancer.

At her funeral, there was this tall classy young woman at the funeral. She was sharply dressed, walked in 5-inch heels, and wore braids beautifully woven into her hair. Her walk was decisive and commanding.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself 3
Beauty is deceptive – fear God instead – who made us and is worthy of respect.

Real Beauty is this…

However, the moment she started speaking during the funeral service, I cringed. Her beauty was on the surface. And her testimonial was more about bringing attention to her than that of the deceased friend who laid in the casket nearby. As our Pastor spoke during his message, I prayed for that young lady to hear the words of the gospel and God’s love for her.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30 ESV

I had been deceived by her beauty in thinking that she was a person who loved and appreciated my friend for her qualities and how she reflected Christ. Instead, she was self-absorbed in her beauty and loved herself more than our friend.

A real woman of beauty is one who fears the Lord. She has respectful awe of who God is and all that He has done for us. You can learn more about fearing the Lord and all that means in this post.

Acceptance of Yourself: Loving your Soul

Acceptance of yourself comes when you have determined that you love yourself no matter what. You have decided that whatever others thinks of you doesn’t matter and you love yourself anyway. A person who has made this decision is wise.

Bible Verses about Acceptance of Yourself 2
Get wisdom & you will love your whole being!

Whoever gets sense loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will discover good. Proverbs 19:8 ESV

The Hebrew word for ‘sense’ here is wisdom. Once you have obtained this wisdom, you love your own soul or being. No one on earth exists exactly like you. And no one has ever existed like you. You are uniquely you and when you decide to accept yourself as you are, then you love YOU!

Summary of Acceptance of Yourself

When it comes down to it, beauty is something that we shouldn’t be as worried about. Should we clean up and care for ourselves? Yes, we should. But should beauty be the most important thing about you? No, your heart and what is on the inside is what matters. God has wonderfully created each one of us as a unique and beautiful person. We are wise we learn to accept who we are and fear and serve the Lord all of our days here on earth.
