Bible Verses about rejection gives us direction on our responsibilities as a believer and God’s benefits that we receive. This world is not our home, and we will be rejected by those who don’t believe in Him. They are part of this world and follow the devil who rejected God’s authority. Paul calls these people the “sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2 ESV). After God threw Satan out of heaven and the angels who went with him (the demons), Satan has tried since the beginning (Genesis 3:1-19 ESV) to do whatever he could to discredit God and those who love and obey him.

However, Jesus came to “set us free from sin” (Romans 6:5-8 ESV) and “to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8 ESV). The rejection we feel at work and from others is due to the devil’s work. He is doing whatever he can to destroy us as believers of God. But have hope, dear one; Jesus came to give us life, and an abundant one at that!
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
John 10:10 ESV

Bible Verses about Rejection: Our Responsibilities
1. Fear God
In what is fear in the Bible, we talked about reverential fear of God. He is the sovereign ruler over all and in control of what goes on. The devil appears to control this world, but God is the ultimate ruler (Isaiah 40:28 ESV). He has had a plan since the beginning. EVERY promise foretold in the Bible has come to pass throughout history. There is one promise left to happen, and that is the return of Jesus to the earth.

In all his wisdom, Solomon reviewed his life and found that much of it is meaningless when we don’t have a relationship with God. He concluded that fearing God and keeping His commandments is our entire work here. Our work on this earth will not satisfy; only God will.
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 ESV
Reverential fear of God will bring blessings, and we will learn more about that shortly.
2. Walk in Godliness
Keeping God’s commandments means that we value godliness. Godliness is reverence or respect for Him, and we desire to do what He wants us to do.
When speaking to Timothy, Paul told the people to reject the myths or teaching of those around them. Instead, they were to train or discipline themselves in godliness.

Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
1 Timothy 4:8 ESV
The word train is “gymnazo,” in Greek, which means to exercise vigorously. He said that godliness has value in this life — in everything we do and for our eternal life to come.
Paul continues that we should strive for this because of the
“hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.”
1 Timothy 4:10 ESV
3. Know the Truth & Accept God’s Gifts
We are in uncertain times for sure. If you say something that offends another person, you can be ‘canceled’ or called a racist. People are telling us teachings that are full of deceit and lies. They will try to get us to believe their rhetoric because it sounds like something that sounds good. Who doesn’t want ‘unity’? That sounds like something all of us would want. Right? No one wants people fighting and yelling at each other. It is stressful and gets tiresome.
Yet, if these teachers are not submitting to the authority of God and their teaching on unity is not based on God’s Word and His truth, then it isn’t the truth that we should believe.
We need to hold onto God’s truth and know it front and back like a worn book. When God gives us good gifts, like food that a false teacher says we shouldn’t eat, we look to see what God’s word tells us about it and thank Him for blessing us with that food.
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.
1 Timothy 4:4 ESV
4. Contend for the Faith: Don’t Listen to False Teachers who Reject God’s Authority
These false teachers are only looking out for people – themselves. They have rejected God’s authority as the sovereign God over all and asking you to believe their “truth.”
Jude told the believers not to listen to those rejecting God’s authority.
Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.
Jude 1:8 ESV
Jude says that these ungodly people are perverting “the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4 ESV).
These people are using their speeches or sermons to twist God’s grace that He has given us into something for their good or help validate the pleasures of others. Sensual in this sense could be sex outside of marriage or sex with a person of the same gender. Or it could be rejecting God’s authority on how He created men and women to be – that is, male and female created in the image of God. He did not create us to be one gender and then, years later, change our minds to be another.

In addition to not listening to these false teachers, he told them to “contend for the faith” (Jude 1:3 ESV).
The word contend in Greek is “epagonizomai” which means to struggle or agonize for. We must work hard and be diligent about standing up for our faith – the gospel’s truth. This means we should support the pastors preaching God’s truth from His Word. And we should not support those who reject God’s truth and the teaching that is appealing to fulfilling the desires of the god of self.
Bible Verses about Rejection: God’s Benefits
1. God Looks at the Heart
God is not concerned with our appearance as much as with our hearts.
When Samuel needed to anoint a new man to be the next king of Israel, He told Samuel not to focus on their good looks or how tall they were. Those men were rejected or not chosen to be the next king. He wanted a man of God who knew God and wanted to serve Him. Because of this, the king would lead the people of the nation to follow God’s ways, not man’s or their gods.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
God wants your heart to be wholly after His. He will bless us when we keep being a witness for Him.
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.
Psalm 119:2 ESV
2. God will not Reject the Blameless
He will not reject us when we walk in godliness and keep His laws. Others may reject us, but God will not reject us. That is comforting to know that we have Him on our side.
“Behold, God will not reject a blameless man, nor take the hand of evildoers.”
Job 8:20 ESV
But not so much for those doing evil. He doesn’t want to have anything to do with them.
3. God won’t Reject your Prayers

For those of us who reverently fear God and have asked Jesus to be our Lord and Savior, there are additional blessings here on earth. He will not reject our prayers and continue His faithful love for us!
Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!
Psalm 66:20 ESV
4. Man rejects, but God sends
When Moses defended an Israelite and killed an Egyptian, two Israelites fought the next day and asked him if he’d kill one of them too. They had rejected Moses. They thought he was assumed to be the ruler of the land. They didn’t understand that he was saving them from the hand of the Egyptians (Acts 7:25 ESV).
“This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
Acts 7:35 ESV
After Moses heard this question from the man, he fled to Midian, obtained a wife, and settled down as a sheepherder. Then 40 years later, he was called to lead the people from their years of slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land.
This story reminds us that even though we may mess up and be rejected by men, don’t give up because you were rejected at work. God has a plan for us. And He will send us out to do His Plan for His Glory. He will use your story of rejection for good.
I know this first hand. I shared the story of my Professional Rejection. God will bring you out of that and put you somewhere new with a purpose in your heart. He did it for Moses, Joseph, and for me. He will do it for you too!
Summary of Bible Verses about Rejection
God is looking for those who will fear Him, obey His laws, and live lives of godliness. Then God will bless you, accept your prayers, faithfully love you, and encourage you in the work that He has for you to do. God sure has a way with His Word – isn’t it nice to be encouraged even when the topic is rejection?
Have a blessed week, friends!
