How do we know what God’s plan meaning is about? Is it the same as God’s Will? How do I know my plan is God’s plan? Will God confirm His Plan for me?
We can know that God has the best plans for us. These plans give us a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
There are so many questions about the meaning of God’s Plan, so let’s dig in!
What is the meaning of God’s Will?
God’s Plan is another way to say God’s Will for you. There is God’s ultimate plan or will for all of humanity. Then there are specific plans that He has for us.
God’s Will Meaning or plan includes His desire to have all people come to know Him through Jesus Christ. There are specific Bible verses that indicate God’s desire for this.
God wants all of us to dwell in His presence. He made us so we could have a relationship with Him and be in a relationship with each other.
Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God (Revelation 21:3).
Relationships During the Pandemic
One thing that I have learned during the 2020 pandemic is that God made us be in a relationship with each other. It is hard to be away from each other and not spend time in each other’s presence.
During this time, our family started using an application that shares video texts with each other. It was fun to be goofy, share prayer requests, and the things we were thankful for, and play some games via Zoom.
We have kept up the app chatting other the years, especially with the grandkids. It is a good way to connect when you are further apart.
How do you know it’s God’s Plan?
Is your plan God’s Plan? It is a good question. There are four ways to know if your plan is from God.
1. Pray and Seek God
Since we were made for a relationship with God, the best way to keep that up is to spend time with Him. To do that means to spend time with God in prayer and in His Word.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:12-13 ESV
When we stop to pray and ask God for guidance on His plan, with ALL of our hearts, then He will answer us.
In my job change a few years ago, I did a lot of praying about God’s Plan. And He did answer me. He made it clear that I needed to stay at the company and the current job that I was at. See below about the Lord directing my steps.
2. Seek Wise Counsel
Ask the advice of those around you who are wise in God’s eyes and know the scriptures. The counsel of these advisors can be what helps your plans to succeed. In fact, without them, your plans could fail.
Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.
Proverbs 15:22
Be sure that you are not getting advice from those who do not know the Lord. In Daniel 6, King Darius was tricked by the governors of the provinces to sign a law about not bowing to anyone but him. These men did this in order to trap Daniel because they knew the only way to get him was to attack his faith.
Daniel was faithful to God and continued to pray to Him, three times a day as he always did. The governors of the provinces turned Daniel in. King Darius had to follow through with the law and throw Daniel into the lion’s den. You likely know the end of the story. If you do not, click the link above for Daniel 6 and read how God showed up.
Be careful who you ask for advice. It could lead to harm.
3. Commit your work to God
Whatever work that you have determined is God’s Plan for you, then you need to commit or entrust those plans over to Him. Once that is done, then He will help them to be completed. Remember, God created you for a purpose.
4. The Lord will direct your steps
We devise a plan or direction that we have put our heart and soul into it. However, it may not be God’s plan.
How do we know whether it is God’s plan or not? God’s plans will direct your steps.
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 ESV
There have been so many different steps in my life that I have taken where I asked God to make it very evident that the decision was one that I should take or not. He has closed opportunities by making the decision such a bad choice it wasn’t even one to consider. When my job changed a few years ago, I wanted to take the severance and run. Several advisors told me to take the current job I have and stay. Then four days later when I wanted to call the HR person and tell her I changed my mind, a friend’s neighbor received a direct message from God telling me to “stay the course.”
If the plan is God’s, He will direct your steps!
God’s Plan Meaning: Reflection Thoughts
- What big plans do you have for your life right now? List them out.
- Prayerfully talk to God about these plans and search His Word for answers about them.
- Are they His plan for you too? Ask Him to make it known which plans you should continue with and which ones you should abandon. Pray that He directs your steps to His Plan.
