How is Contentment Affected by Others’ Expectations? With Anita Peluso

Episode 3 Show Notes

Is your contentment affected by others? Do you have contentment in your lot?

Today, I explain what ‘lot’ is as described in Ecclesiastes 3:18-20. Others have expectations of us, and that affects our contentment. How does one have peace when others have expectations of you that cannot be met?

Listen to today’s interview with Anita Peluso, an Old Testament Biblical studies graduate, who shares her thoughts on this subject and Biblical references of examples of others who struggled with lots different than others around them.

Key Verses for Today’s Show notes:

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 “Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God. For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.

1 Samuel 1:8 “Am I not more to you than ten sons?”

Psalm 17:15 “I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.”

Exodus 34:6 “merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness”

Matthew 14

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Proverbs 3:1 “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.”

Deuteronomy 30
